Both Romualdo and Richard are both HIV positive. Richard started the process for becoming a father before meeting Romualdo. He first had his sperm washed from the virus using a new medical procedure, and then found an egg donor, and a surrogate mother respectively. Romualdo has two daughters from a previous marriage.
